- OnePlus will hold a special event on 26 September where the OnePlus TV might be unveiled
- The company may also launch the OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro, although some media reports suggest a later launch date of 5 October for these smartphones
OnePlus will hold a special event on 26 September, the company has confirmed. OnePlus may unveil the upcoming OnePlus TV on this event. The company may also launch the half-yearly successors to the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro, although some media reports suggest a later launch date of 5 October for the smartphones. This might help the upcoming TV to gain better traction. OnePlus hasn’t specifically mentioned what it will launch at the event, however.
The company published a video on YouTube to tease the special event. It shows a OnePlus device being suckered into a giant star. At the end of the video, OnePlus says ‘evolution is around the corner. A new era’.
Last week, an Amazon sale listing confirmed that the OnePlus TV would be one of the products that would be available during the ecommerce giant’s Great Indian Festival sale.
A couple of weeks ago, CEO Pete Lau shared a photo on Twitter that showed off the back of the TV, revealing its Kevlar finish and a unique swivel stand.
‘No detail is too small,’ wrote Lau in a Twitter post with the image of the OnePlus TV.
The swivel mechanism is expected to hold the TV from the top, providing easy access to the ports at the bottom of the device.
Earlier, the company confirmed several key details of the device.
An Amazon landing page for the product revealed that the TV will feature a 55-inch 4K QLED display with support for Dolby Vision. This will be accompanied by eight speakers with a combined output of 50W. The speakers will be powered by Dolby Atmos sound technology.
Lau in the past also said that the OnePlus TV will run the Android TV platform and guaranteed software updates for at least three years. He also said that the TV will offer access to Google Assistant and the Play Store.
In the forum post for the TV’s introduction last month, Lau clarified that the company’s goal is to offer the same fast and smooth experience of OnePlus phones for the OnePlus TV, hence they went for Android TV. Adding to the seamlessness, it is expected to run a modified version of Android TV OS with OnePlus’ OxygenOS UI.
Media reports have shown in the past that the TV might come in three display sizes of 43-inch, 55-inch, 65-inch, and 75-inch.
An image of the OnePlus TV remote hinted at a slim form factor, bearing resemblance to Apple TV’s remote. It received Bluetooth SIG certification last month and was shown to have five buttons on the top. The remote is likely to pair with the OnePlus TV via Bluetooth.
